Job summary

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has a vacancy for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic that is based out of our equipment shop in Aurora. This position provides skilled, professional, quality mechanic services for a wide range of CDOT equipment.

New employees are required to attend two weeks of maintenance training in Aurora, while veteran CDOT employees attend training one week each year in Aurora. A valid CDL Class A or B is required, with no air brakes restriction, and the base pay

Qualifications

• Four years of automotive and heavy equipment repair experience.
• Education in automotive or diesel equipment mechanics; transcript required.
• At least one year of experience diagnosing and repairing heavy diesel equipment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and repairs heavy truck and construction equipment malfunctions.
• Overhauls and rebuilds components and equipment.
• Uses test equipment to diagnose defects or malfunctions.
• Works on various heavy equipment including trucks, loaders, graders and paving machines.
• Performs preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
• Designs and fabricates parts and tools.
• Orders and procures parts and supplies.
• Uses computers to track vehicle repairs.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
• Other duties as assigned.
