Job summary

TEC Equipment is seeking an experienced heavy‑duty truck technician to diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems at our Sioux Falls service center. You will perform inspections, component repairs, and engine overhauls to restore vehicle operation and safety.

The role emphasizes thorough inspections, diagnostic testing, and rebuilding major components as needed, while keeping meticulous service records.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years practical experience in commercial 6 & 8 truck classes.
• Must have own hand tools.
• Highly proficient in repair/diagnosis of diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts & differentials; electrical, HVAC, hydraulic, steering, brakes.
• High expertise in troubleshooting using diagnostic software.
• OEM Master Tech certifications & Cummins training preferred.
• Proficient computer skills to input vehicle maintenance records and diagnostic software.
• Ability to meet physical demands (lifting up to 50lbs, climbing, bending).
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain predictable attendance and safety.
• CDL license preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to troubleshoot issues and repair vehicle to proper operating condition.
• Perform advanced repairs and replace major components such as radiators, valve adjustments, and turbos.
• Rebuild or repair major components such as transmissions, gear plates and block reconditioning.
• Perform engine overhauls including replacing heads, rods and main bearings.
• Troubleshoot and perform complex wiring repairs and diagnose electrical issues.
• Maintain safe and organized work area and document services.
