Job summary

Pirc-Tobin Construction is seeking an experienced Estimator to plan, evaluate, and prepare competitive bids for heavy civil projects in Eastern Iowa. The ideal candidate will understand construction methods, materials, equipment, and project costs, and excel at cost analysis.

The role requires critical thinking, multi-project management, and collaboration with project managers, field personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers to deliver accurate estimates and successful bids.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of related construction industry experience.
• Strong understanding of heavy civil construction practices, methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specs, bid documents to determine scope and develop cost estimates.
• Prepare quantity takeoffs and estimate labor, equipment, material, subcontractor costs.
• Develop competitive bids for underground utilities, excavation, grading, and other heavy civil projects.
• Analyze site conditions and risks to identify cost considerations.
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and material suppliers.
• Collaborate with project managers and field personnel to develop methods, schedules, and cost projections.
• Prepare detailed bid proposals, cost breakdowns, and supporting docs.
• Monitor bid opportunities and ensure timely submissions.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
