The Deputy (Assistant Chief), Engineering Service for the U.S.

Department of Veterans Affairs functions as the full alter ego of the Chief, responsible for professional Engineering programs including Maintenance and Repair, Utility Plant Operations, Energy Management and Conservation, Safety, Fire Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness, Green Environmental Management, Vehicle Fleet, Grounds, Capital Planning, and Construction Project Management.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required; non-citizens only if VA policy allows.
• Proficient in English per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
• Engineering or Architecture degree from ABET/NCARB accredited program or equivalent credentials.
• Experience as Healthcare Engineer at GS-13 level or higher is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Deputy to the Chief, Engineering Service, overseeing Maintenance and Repair, Utility Plant Operations, Energy Management and Conservation, Safety, Fire Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Preparedness, Green Environmental Management, Vehicle Fleet, Grounds, Capital Planning and Construction Project Management.
• Lead capital planning and coordination of multiple healthcare system portfolios within the department.
• Collaborate with organizational levels and external partners to implement policies and ensure compliant, efficient operations.
