Job summary

Kaweah Health, a community healthcare provider serving Visalia and surrounding areas, seeks a Coding Specialist II in Health Information Management. You will translate clinical documentation into coded data, supporting patient care continuity and accurate reimbursement.

The role requires 1–2 years of coding experience with appropriate credentials and involves handling outpatient and potentially more complex inpatient coding in a busy hospital setting at one of Kaweah Health’s facilities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Coding training including anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, basic ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding.
• 1–2 years of coding experience required; more for Interventional Radiology coder role.

Responsibilities

• Codes and abstracts diagnoses, procedures, and patient information from outpatient encounters and enters data into the hospital information system.
• Verifies abstracted hospital information fields for accuracy and completeness.
• Prioritizes outpatient and inpatient coding and abstracting responsibilities to keep coding current.
• Communicates with physicians or staff when documentation is unclear or insufficient for coding.
• Maintains coding proficiency through continuing education and knowledge of coding updates.
