Job summary

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) in Bethesda, MD seeks a Sr Occupational Safety and Health Specialist to provide hazardous waste management and compliance services to Environmental Health and Occupational Safety Department and USU.

The role supports the Uniformed Services University environment, ensuring regulatory compliance across local, state and federal requirements, developing procedures, training staff, and coordinating with hazardous waste

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred in public health, biological science or safety.
• At least 6-8 years experience.
• Knowledge of medical facilities and biological research.
• Ability to obtain local, state and federal certifications as determined necessary for proper execution of hazardous waste management.
• DoD experience and/or familiarity a plus.

Responsibilities

• Executes Hazardous Waste Management Plan; determines appropriate storage methods, coordinates with certified disposal company to properly package and ship hazardous waste.
• Performs hazardous waste activities to include collecting, segregating, and packaging and controlling exposure(s) to chemical and physical hazards.
• Partners with Industrial Hygiene staff to evaluate, revise and document the University’s Hazardous Waste Management program; prepares and submits reports.
• Conducts audits of the University’s hazardous waste program and coordinates chemical exposure monitoring and employee medical surveillance as appropriate.
• Develops, coordinates and presents hazardous waste and chemical hygiene training; analyzes training needs and provides on-the-spot corrective actions.
• Assist with industrial hygiene operations as required.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
