Job summary

MatX seeks a hands-on Lab Manager to oversee the hardware lab operations, board rework, bench organization, inventory, and remote support. You will keep the lab productive for board, system, and validation engineers, including after-hours and cross-timezone testing.

You will manage calibration schedules, asset tracking, and vendor servicing while ensuring safe, clean lab practices and a ready-to-measure bench for oscilloscopes and other instruments.

Qualifications

• Own lab operations beyond your bench work
• Minimum 5 years in electronics lab or hardware prototyping lab
• Expert hand soldering and SMT rework
• Proficient with standard bench instruments and remote support
• Experience in calibration databases, asset tracking, and procurement systems
• Knowledge of ESD control and lab safety standards (OSHA/EHS)
• Strong communication and multitasking skills

Responsibilities

• Do precision rework on prototype and validation boards: fine-pitch SMT
• Run board-level failure analysis on solder joints, traces, pads and ESD damage
• Support new board bring-up: first power-on, checks, probing, isolating shorts
• Maintain bench readiness and calibrations for instruments
• Configure instruments over GPIB, LAN, USB and support remote sessions
• Manage lab logistics: source equipment, POs, vendor quotes, RMAs
• Own lab space: layout, ESD program, day-to-day safety
