Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to lead wired connectivity hardware development for SerDes and Ethernet within the Network Technology and Design team. You will collaborate across ECU design, software, and semiconductor partners to drive high-performance, manufacturable hardware solutions.

The role emphasizes hardware design ownership, system-level analysis, and close partnerships with internal teams to enable GM’s next-generation vehicle architectures.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Computer Science required.
  • 5+ years' engineering experience at an OEM, semiconductor supplier, or Tier 1 ECU supplier.
  • 3+ years' experience in electronic hardware design and development.
  • Experience with automotive electronic hardware and software architecture.
  • Strong circuit design, schematic creation, and PCB layout skills.
  • Experience with tools such as Mentor Graphics Xpedition and ORCAD.
  • Experience with lab equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters).
  • Proven track record leading projects to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to integrate network technologies into ECU designs.
  • Perform detailed hardware analysis including worst-case analysis, signal integrity, and power integrity for SerDes and Ethernet interfaces.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions across ECUs and connectivity hardware.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to ensure manufacturable designs meeting performance and safety targets.
  • Develop hardware requirements and test specs for SerDes/Ethernet connectivity and supporting circuitry.
  • Lead bench test execution from bring-up to production readiness.
  • Establish domain expertise for semiconductors and ECU product lines in wired connectivity technology.
