Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to lead hardware development of wired connectivity technology, including SerDes and Ethernet-based network solutions, within the Network Technology and Design team. You will collaborate across ECU design, semiconductor partners, and software teams to deliver robust, manufacturable hardware that meets performance, safety, and reliability targets.

A BS in EE/CS and 5+ years of automotive hardware experience are required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Computer Science.
  • 5+ total years of engineering experience at an OEM, OR at a semiconductor supplier, OR at a Tier 1 ECU supplier.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in electronic hardware design and development.
  • Working knowledge of automotive electronic hardware and automotive software architecture.
  • Strong proficiency in circuit design, schematic creation, and PCB layout.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multimeters.
  • Exceptional demonstrated experience leading projects to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to integrate network tech into ECU designs.
  • Perform detailed hardware analysis, including worst-case analysis, signal integrity, and power integrity for SerDes and Ethernet interfaces and related circuitry.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, root cause analysis, and implement robust solutions across ECUs and connectivity hardware.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure high-quality, manufacturable designs meeting performance, safety, and reliability targets.
  • Develop hardware requirements and test specifications for SerDes/Ethernet connectivity and supporting circuitry.
  • Develop a clear test strategy covering development from component to production readiness.
  • Lead bench test execution during bring-up, characterization, and debug of prototype and production hardware.
  • Establish domain expertise for semiconductors and ECU product lines focusing on wired connectivity technology.
  • Manage technology roadmaps with industry leaders and semiconductor partners for performance, cost, and scalability.
