Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer to define and standardize the EtherCAT-based controls architecture across its OneMHS program. You will specify topology, device selection, and safety integration for high-performance material handling systems.

The role involves leading hardware prototyping, validation, and collaboration with Controls Software, Operations, and suppliers to ensure scalable, safe, and compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Systems Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years in industrial controls hardware design or automation hardware development.
• Experience with industrial Ethernet/fieldbus networks (EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET).
• Experience selecting, specifying, and integrating industrial field devices (I/O, drives, sensors, safety devices).
• Knowledge of NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 79, UL 508A.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain EtherCAT controls architecture and topology across material handling systems.
• Select and qualify hardware components with exact part numbers and firmware revisions.
• Integrate safety devices and safety-over-fieldbus (FSoE) into the controls architecture.
• Develop test benches and validation protocols for hardware and topology maturity.
• Review vendor and integrator designs for OneMHS compliance and roadmaps.
