Job summary

Amazon is seeking an experienced Hardware Development Engineer to serve as a technical authority for industrial controls network architecture within our global fulfillment center network. You will define, standardize, and evolve EtherCAT-based controls architecture across material handling systems, focusing on topology, device selection, safety integration, scalability, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Experience designing industrial Ethernet networks and topology for complex material handling systems.
• Ability to specify and qualify controls hardware, including I/O, safety devices, and power supplies.
• Experience defining component baselines, firmware/hardware revisions, and BOMs.
• Knowledge of safety standards and compliance considerations for industrial environments.
• Ability to collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to drive roadmaps.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain EtherCAT controls architecture, topology, and design limits.
• Develop diagrams, topology drawings, and addressing/naming standards for devices.
• Define network diagnostics, fault isolation, and troubleshooting practices.
• Select and qualify hardware components (PCs, controllers, VFDs, sensors, power supplies).
• Lead prototyping, testing, and validation of hardware and architectures.
• Review integrator designs for compliance with OneMHS architecture and standards.
