Job summary

Tachyon Technologies is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer (Embedded Board Design) to lead hardware development, from schematic capture to PCB layout and board bring-up. You will work with iMX8/iMX9 processors, ESP32 and STM32 microcontrollers, and high-speed interfaces such as MIPI, HDMI, CSI, USB, SPI and I2C.

Onsite in Benton Harbor, you will coordinate with suppliers, drive lab testing and certification activities, and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on hardware testing in a lab with oscilloscopes, signal analyzers and related equipment.
  • Experience supporting certification activities (FCC, IC, CE) across multiple countries.

Responsibilities

  • Design boards with microprocessors (iMX8, iMX9) and microcontrollers (ESP32, STM32).
  • Work with display interfaces (MIPI DSI, Parallel, LVDS, HDMI) and camera interfaces (CSI, USB).
  • Create schematics and layouts using Altium and/or Cadence.
  • Troubleshoot and debug hardware boards; lead lab testing for EMI/EMC; plan certification activities.
  • Handle BOM creation, cost estimation, and supplier coordination.
  • Lead electronics design including component selection and PCB sizing; perform high-speed layout, SI/PI, and thermal analysis.

Job description

Position: Senior Hardware Engineer (Embedded Board Design)

Candidates should have strong hands-on experience in hardware design and development, board programming, and lab testing with signal analyzers, oscilloscopes and sensors. Please share profiles in the submission format at the bottom of this email.

Experience: 7+ years preferred (4 to 5 years is acceptable if the candidate is strong)
MANDATORY SCREENING (please confirm before submitting):
  • Visa validity: At least 1 year of remaining validity is required.
  • Onsite: The candidate must be comfortable working 100% onsite in Benton Harbor, MI.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design boards with microprocessors (e.g., iMX8, iMX9) and microcontrollers (e.g., ESP32, STM32). This is a must-have.
  • Work with display interfaces including MIPI DSI, Parallel Bus, LVDS and HDMI
  • Work with camera interfaces including CSI and USB
  • Create schematics and layouts using Altium and/or Cadence
  • Troubleshoot and debug hardware boards
  • Plan and support lab testing for EMI/EMC
  • Apply knowledge of certification and regulatory requirements (UL/FCC)
  • Handle cost estimation, component selection and BOM creation
  • Work directly with suppliers and vendors
  • Lead electronics design and development, including component selection, schematic design, component placement and PCB sizing
  • Perform layout design following high-speed interface guidelines, run signal integrity, power integrity and thermal analysis, and review Gerber files
  • Design sensor boards (motion, light, accelerometer, temperature, gyroscope, magnetometer), calibrate sensors and integrate them with HMI modules
  • Use communication protocols including SPI, I2C, Serial, UART, USB, DSI and CSI
  • Coordinate with fabrication, assembly and integration teams
  • Conduct board bring-up and functional, EDVT, thermal and performance testing
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering with related experience (7+ years preferred, 4 to 5 years acceptable for strong candidates), OR an advanced degree with 5+ years, OR equivalent work experience
  • Experience supporting certification activities for multiple countries (FCC, IC, CE), including debugging and resolving issues during certification testing
  • Hands‑on hardware testing in a lab using oscilloscopes, signal analyzers and related equipment
  • Experience resolving field-testing issues and verifying hardware use cases
