Job summary

NovaTech Automation is seeking a Staff Hardware Design Engineer to serve as the senior technical authority on mixed-signal and high-speed digital hardware. You will lead reviews, shape platform architecture with the Director of Hardware Engineering, and drive standard designs across four sites for critical infrastructure products.

You will own high-speed digital design, FPGA integration, Ethernet interfaces, EMC compliance, and hardware documentation from concept through DVT/PVT, mentoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience (Required)
• 10+ years of formal hardware design experience in regulated markets (Required)
• Experience designing mixed-signal circuitry: analog inputs and digital I/O (Required)
• Experience with high-speed digital design (Required)
• Experience with FPGA-based hardware design and integration (Required)
• Experience designing Ethernet/networking hardware interfaces (Required)
• Experience with EMC design and compliance testing (Required)
• Power supply design and magnetics experience (Preferred)
• IEC 61850 or substation automation protocol experience (Preferred)
• Experience in regulated critical-infrastructure markets (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, schematic, and PCB design reviews across the hardware organization.
• Define standard designs, reference architectures, and reusable building blocks for a common platform architecture.
• Establish design guidelines, templates, and reference schematics across sites.
• Identify opportunities to standardize hardware building blocks and reduce design variation.
• Lead design of mixed-signal hardware for critical-infrastructure product lines.
• Own high-speed digital design and signal integrity analysis.
• Architect and integrate FPGA-based subsystems with firmware engineering.
• Design Ethernet and networking interfaces meeting industrial requirements.
• Design and specify power supplies and magnetics for embedded hardware.
• Drive design decisions from concept through exit, with audit-ready documentation.
• Execute EMC practices and support regulatory certification processes.
• Mentor engineers on design rigor and documentation standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align hardware decisions with timelines.
