Job summary

Elevance Health is seeking a Senior Group Underwriter Consultant to determine acceptability of insurance risks and set premium rates for large and complex group health cases. This role is the most senior technical underwriting expert and will mentor underwriting associates.

The position supports collaboration across Sales, Actuarial, Finance and other teams, with hybrid in-office/remote work options. The role emphasizes strategy, risk assessment, and process improvement in underwriting practices.

Qualifications

• Requires a BA/BS in a related field and 7+ years of relevant underwriting experience.
• Advanced Excel skills with macros.
• Preferred CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA, PAHM or related courses.
• Experience with pricing, renewal strategies, and large complex group health cases.

Responsibilities

• Determines acceptability of insurance risks and appropriate premium rates for large and complex group cases.
• Monitors underwriting workflow, results, controls, and adherence to policies.
• Collaborates with Sales, Account Management, Actuarial, Finance and other partners on pricing/renewal strategies.
• Provides technical guidance and mentoring to underwriting associates.
• Calculates renewal rates for large complex cases based on experience, location and demographics.
