Job summary

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a dedicated Group Exercise Instructor Level II to lead, educate, and strengthen our wellness programs at the Cowart Family Ashford Dunwoody YMCA. You will manage class setup, build engaging sessions, and uphold safety standards for all participants.

Responsibilities include music selection, class logistics, maintaining certifications, and collaborating with wellness staff to deliver high-quality experiences while using THE COACH APPROACH®.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• 1+ year experience teaching group exercise.
• Must hold current national group exercise certification (ACE/ACSM/AFAA/NETA) and maintain it.
• Water instructors: current national water group exercise certification (AEA) maintained.
• Complete YMCA/ACE online Group Exercise Instructor Certification within 60 days of hire; additional formats may be required.
• CPR/AED certification required with renewal every two years.
• Must pass a background check and drug screen, and obtain necessary safety trainings.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily program tasks related to group exercise classes.
• Stay updated on group fitness/wellness program developments.
• Promote, monitor, and ensure high-quality class experiences for participants.
• Maintain branch and association certifications (CPR/AED and others).
• Log class attendance in GroupEx PRO by the end of the teaching day; check updates regularly.
• Arrange and secure substitute instructors when unavailable.
• Follow YMCA risk and safety guidelines and branch procedures.
• Support wellness initiatives and participate in staff meetings and trainings.
