Blue Origin in Reston is seeking a Ground Data Systems Engineer 3 to own and evolve ground data architectures, interfacing with flight, ground software, and external vendors to ensure safe space-to-ground operations.

The role requires strong experience in RF communications, CCSDS protocols, and system lifecycle management, with travel as needed and a focus on quality and collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BS in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, CS, physics, or related field.
• 5+ years in Space-to-Ground and ground systems.
• 5+ years in CCSDS transport & application protocols.
• Experience with link budgets and data rates.
• Familiarity with DVB-S2/X, Ka/S/X bands.
• Experience with CCSDS ranging codes.
• Experience with Type 1 encryption and secure comms.
• TCP/IP networking knowledge.
• Python scripting preferred.
• STK simulations experience.
• Experience with SATCOM and RF systems.
• Experience with ground network providers.
• Experience with instrumentation and Ground Modems (Amergint, Kratos).
• Experience in complex system lifecycle (reqs, design, implement, test).
• Excellent written and verbal communication, collaborative.
• Ability to travel for tests and operations.

Responsibilities

• Identify, derive, develop, and maintain Ground Data Systems requirements, including traceability and verification/validation approaches.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including flight vehicle, ground software, I&T, and external vendors.
• Develop and refine ground data system and communications architectures across mission requirements.
• Define and maintain interface requirements and control documents (SV to Ground Network).
• Plan, perform, and document requirement verification and validation for Ground Data Systems.
• Plan and perform frequent Ground Data Systems product updates, integration and test activities, and production releases.
• Support initiatives to improve Mission Systems and Flight Operations engineering processes.
• Perform analysis to ensure operability across Space-Ground System and improve as needed.
