Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Longmont, CO seeks a Ground Data Systems Engineer 3 to own RF/communications development across space-ground operations. The role collaborates with Ground System, Software, Mission Systems, and Flight Operations for end-to-end lifecycle tasks.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in space-to-ground and communications, with proficiency in TCP/IP, Python, STK simulations, and CCSDS standards, and willingness to travel for tests and operations.

Qualifications

• BS in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, CS, physics or related field.
• 5+ years in Space-to-Ground comms and ground systems.
• 5+ years in the Communications domain incl. CCSDS and protocols.
• Experience in link budgets to predict data rates.
• Proficiency with modulation, channel coding (DVB-S2/X, Ka/S/X).
• Experience with ranging and PN codes.
• Experience with secure comms (Type 1 crypto).
• Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS).
• Python scripting ability.
• STS/STK skills for RF link analysis.

Responsibilities

• Identify, derive, develop, and maintain Ground Data Systems requirements with verification and validation approaches.
• Collaborate with flight vehicle, ground software, I&T teams and external vendors.
• Refine ground data system and communications architectures across missions.
• Define ground data system interfaces and control documents (e.g., Space Vehicle to Ground).
• Plan, perform, and document requirement verification and validation.
• Lead product update cycles, integration, testing, and validation to production releases.
• Support improvements to Mission Systems and Flight Ops processes and tools.
• Analyze operability across Space-Ground System and justify improvements.
