Office of the State Auditor in Charlotte, NC, seeks a Senior Grants Compliance Specialist for the Rapid Response Division. The role focuses on mentoring a team of Grants Compliance Specialists and ensuring grant funding is used properly by North Carolina public entities.

The position involves planning and conducting audits of grants, interviewing auditees and agency management, and contributing to final reports with actionable recommendations to strengthen controls and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester hours in accounting and 3 years auditing/accounting or program evaluation.
• Ability to review budgets, expenditures, and financial reports for grant terms.
• Ability to interpret grant agreements and identify allowable vs unallowable costs.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct audits of grants used by public state entities.
• Speak with auditees, agency management, and legislators to understand programs under audit.
• Conduct on-site fieldwork with information gathering and interviews to identify risks and controls.
• Review and analyze source records, program data, financial and program documentation.
• Learn about state and federal agencies, programs, statutes, rules, and policies.
• Document results and any potential findings and recommendations.
• Assist in writing final reports established by the Rapid Response Division.
