Job summary

Communities In Schools National Office seeks a skilled Grant Writer to identify, write, submit, and manage proposals to private and corporate foundations, as well as public sources where applicable. The role focuses on general operating support to sustain CIS’s mission and expands programmatic impact with complex, cross‑functional collaboration.

The position requires a track record in K‑12 education and equity, independence, and strong storytelling with financial data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, or related field.
• 6–8 years of grant writing and fundraising experience.
• Experience securing unrestricted general operating support at six‑figure level.
• Nonprofit sector experience focused on K‑12 education and/or economic mobility.

Responsibilities

• Draft LOIs, concept notes, and full proposals clearly articulating CIS’s mission and funding needs.
• Customize proposals to funder priorities and emphasize flexible unrestricted support.
• Lead multi‑stakeholder proposal processes independently.
• Develop a 12–18 month grants calendar and manage donor communication.
• Produce timely, compliant reports and maintain grant files and CRM data.
