Job summary

Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles in Carson City seeks an Auditor 2, underfilling an Auditor 3, to serve as the internal auditor for the DMV. You will independently plan, organize, and conduct examinations of accounts and records to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, and contracts, following governmental auditing standards.

The role requires documenting findings, developing recommendations to improve controls, and presenting results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of professional level auditing or accounting experience; OR graduation from high school and three years of professional experience; OR one year as Auditor I in Nevada State service; OR equivalent combination.

Responsibilities

• Research past audit history of individuals, organizations or agencies and develop/audit steps per approved audit program.
• Review financial and/or tax accounts and records, examine documentation and interview personnel to determine compliance with governing laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, agreements and contracts; investigate past activities.
• Conduct audits in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards and standards for internal auditing.
• Document findings and prepare work papers and reports summarizing audit findings and recommendations; improve and modify controls to standardize systems and strengthen integrity.
• Conduct entrance and exit interviews to discuss scope and findings; verify facts and answer questions.
• Monitor progress of implementation and ongoing adherence to procedures established from audit findings.
• Conduct special investigations in areas at risk; investigate fraudulent activity by employees, contractors or vendors as necessary.
• Prepare reports, conduct research, develop case files, maintain evidence; preserve evidence for potential litigation.
• May represent evidence before state bodies or testify in court; may serve legal documents to enforce assessments.
• Perform related duties; assist in training less experienced auditors; this is journey level in the series.
• Work is planned through an annual audit plan and reviewed for technical accuracy against audit standards.
