Job summary

Coconino County's Sheriff’s Office (Patrol) seeks a qualified finance leader to manage accounting records and the annual financial statements. The role oversees audits, grants, and compliance, and ensures internal controls and accurate reporting across the county’s finances.

The position requires extensive governmental finance experience, GAAP/GASB knowledge, and supervisory responsibility, with an emphasis on financial integrity and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; seven years of government finance, accounting, financial statement preparation, or related field and four years of increasingly responsible accounting experience including one year of supervisory experience.
• Certified Public Accountant preferred.
• This position is exempt from overtime; exempt classifications may be non-exempt for part-time employees per FLSA.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, manage, and supervise professional staff per GAAP, GASB and related rules.
• Lead the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and related notes.
• Oversee the annual financial audit with contracted support.
• Design and prepare financial reports, schedules, and statements to reflect financial condition and compliance.
• Coordinate responses to audit findings and corrective action with the CFO.
• Oversee grant and federal award compliance and SEFA preparation.
• Maintain GASB knowledge and implement new standards.
• Manage general and subsidiary ledgers, closings, assets, project accounting and reporting.
• Establish and enforce strong internal controls to prevent errors and fraud.
• Preserve fiscal integrity of accounting records and ensure timely, accurate reporting.
• Develop systems to monitor the general ledger and review year-end balances.
