Job summary

Arango is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the ArangoDB Kubernetes Operator, ensuring robust lifecycle management, scaling, backup and replication for ArangoDB on Kubernetes. You will shape core components and drive best practices for enterprise deployments.

Ideal candidates bring 4+ years of programming and cloud experience, deep Kubernetes expertise, Go proficiency, and strong leadership. U.S. citizenship is required with security clearance preferred.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of programming and cloud experience.
• Deep expertise in Kubernetes, CRDs and operators (ArangoDeployment, ArangoBackup, ArangoLocalStorage).
• Go language proficiency with understanding of concurrency and distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS, including GovCloud is a plus.
• Proven track record in production-grade distributed databases or stateful systems.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes storage concepts (PersistentVolumes, PVCs, snapshot/backup).
• Strong leadership and communication; able to mentor contributors and write design docs.
• U.S. citizenship required; security clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of the ArangoDB Kubernetes Operator.
• Own core operator architecture and features for lifecycle management, scaling, backup, and replication.
• Ensure high availability, performance, and stability of ArangoDB on Kubernetes.
• Define best practices for running stateful systems on Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to align operator capabilities with enterprise and cloud requirements.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across Kubernetes and distributed systems.
• This role supports a U.S. Air Force project and requires U.S. citizenship.
• Support extension of the solution into GovCloud (AWS).
