Job summary

DigitalOcean is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I to lead features across our distributed control plane, crafting high-throughput microservices and core infrastructure. You will mentor engineers and drive technical execution in a fast-paced, globally distributed team.

You’ll design scalable services using Go, REST and gRPC, tackle complex systems challenges, and contribute to low-latency compute offerings while guiding architecture decisions for resilience and reliability.

Qualifications

• Experience with Go and building distributed control plane systems.
• Experience with containerization or cloud-native infra (Kubernetes or Firecracker).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and Linux performance.
• Ability to lead complex projects and mentor engineers to improve execution.
• Growth mindset with focus on maintainability of system design.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-throughput distributed control plane services in Go.
• Lead multi-team project workstreams from design to release on schedule.
• Develop scalable microservice interfaces using gRPC and REST.
• Provide technical guidance and code reviews to grow the team.
• Solve edge cases and bottlenecks to improve resilience and uptime.
• Refine build pipelines and service boundaries for efficiency.
• Participate in on-call support and rapid incident response.
