Job summary

Inversion is seeking a Staff GNC Engineer (State Estimation) at our Playa Vista, CA headquarters. You will develop state estimation and tracking algorithms for aerospace vehicles, integrating learned and classical methods to operate in a demanding flight regime.

You will train neural networks for trajectory prediction, model external-object behavior, and work with guidance and simulation teams to deliver real-time estimates. This on-site role requires ability to obtain a U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, robotics or related field.
• 9+ years of experience in estimation, tracking or GNC.
• Experience with autonomous or multi-agent trajectory prediction.
• Experience with PyTorch or JAX and training models at scale.
• Experience estimating state from noisy sensor data.
• Experience training neural networks for prediction or tracking.
• Strong background in classical mechanics and rigid body motion.

Responsibilities

• Develop state estimation and tracking for aerospace systems using both classical and learned methods.
• Model and predict external objects’ behavior with uncertain intent.
• Train, validate, and deploy neural networks for trajectory and behavior prediction.
• Create probabilistic representations of external-state and intent for downstream planning.
• Build metrics, tooling and datasets to quantify estimation error and drive improvements.
• Integrate estimation and prediction into 3-DOF and 6-DOF simulations and flight software.
