Job summary

ABB is seeking a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Commissioning Engineer to lead the on-site commissioning of GIS and RMU systems in the US, with a remote-friendly work model. You will develop work plans, manage risk, and collaborate with customers and ABB teams to ensure safe, high-quality execution and acceptance.

You’ll bring 10+ years in field engineering, ABB GIS/RMU experience, and strong technical writing. Travel up to 50% is expected to support projects nationwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of commissioning and field engineering experience.
• Strong ABB GIS (ZX Portfolio) and RMU (SafeRing/SafePlus) experience.
• Experience with ABB Protection & Control platforms (ZEE600/SSC600/PCM600).
• Knowledge of generator paralleling and critical power systems.
• Proficient in drafting commissioning documentation.
• Willingness to travel 40-50% for projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning of ABB GIS and RMU systems per standards and IEEE/IEC/ANSI.
• Create work plans, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and MOPs.
• Support execution through energization and customer acceptance.
• Support FAT and IFAT activities.
• Interface with customers, EPCs, utilities, and ABB teams.
• Identify risks and drive mitigation actions.
• Support contract managers with technical input on scope and claims.
• Perform site visits to support commissioning teams.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
