Job summary

ABB is seeking a Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Commissioning Engineer to lead the commissioning of GIS and RMU systems remotely in the United States. You will create work plans, estimates, risk assessments, and MOPs while coordinating with customers, EPCs, and ABB teams.

You will also support FAT/IFAT, provide technical input on scope and claims, and mentor junior engineers, traveling 40–50% to sites and engaging in field engineering activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of commissioning and field engineering experience.
• Experience with ABB GIS (ZX Portfolio) and RMU (SafeRing / SafePlus).
• Experience with ABB Protection & Control platforms (ZEE600, SSC600, PCM600).
• Knowledge of generator paralleling systems and critical power infrastructure.
• Proficient technical writing skills for commissioning documentation.
• Ability to travel 40–50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning of ABB GIS and RMU systems in accordance with ABB standards and applicable IEEE/IEC/ANSI requirements.
• Create commissioning work plans, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and MOPs.
• Support execution and manage commissioning activities through energization and acceptance.
• Support FAT and IFAT testing.
• Interface with customers, EPCs, utilities, and internal ABB teams.
• Identify commissioning risks and lead mitigation actions.
• Support contract managers with technical scope and claims input.
• Perform site visits to support commissioning teams.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers.
