Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior GIS Developer to lead the production of federal species range maps for a high-priority data integration program. You will produce complete range maps for marine and anadromous taxa in compliance with the FWS Range Mapping SOP, coordinating iterations with government SMEs and securing sign-off. Work Location: Remote.

The role requires U.S. citizenship, the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance, and strong experience with ArcGIS/QGIS, Python, and SQL for spatial

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of professional experience, or high school diploma/equivalent with 6 years of experience.
• U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain Public Trust clearance; work within the United States.
• Hands-on GIS experience focused on species range mapping or federal environmental applications.
• Direct experience with FWS Range Mapping SOP or equivalent standards.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar GIS platforms.
• Proficiency in Python for GIS automation and spatial data processing (ArcPy or similar).
• Proficiency in SQL for spatial data queries in cloud platforms.
• Experience with CRS transformations and spatial data normalization.
• Experience with spatial intersects validation and Critical Habitat analysis.
• Strong QA documentation skills for geospatial deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Lead species range map production for marine and anadromous taxa in compliance with the SOP.
• Obtain and review the FWS Range Mapping SOP at project kickoff.
• Aggregate and normalize range data from cloud platforms, applying CRS transforms.
• Validate spatial intersects against authoritative layers and dynamic habitat boundaries.
• Coordinate iterative review cycles with FWS SMEs and NOAA Fisheries.
• Produce QA documentation for each range map and secure SOP acceptance.
• Coordinate sign-off from FWS Ecological Services on the Range Map Set.
• Support post-production updates and handoff documentation.
