Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior GIS Developer to lead the production of federal species range maps for an ESA data integration program. You will produce complete marine and anadromous range maps in line with the FWS SOP and coordinate review cycles with government SMEs.

You will validate intersects against authoritative layers, perform CRS transformations, and deliver QA documentation plus sign-off-ready map sets for government approval.

Qualifications

• Extensive GIS experience with species range mapping or federal environmental applications.
• Direct experience with FWS Range Mapping SOP or equivalent federal standards.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS, QGIS or equivalent GIS platforms.
• Proficiency in Python for GIS automation and spatial data processing (ArcPy or equivalent).
• Proficiency in SQL for querying and validating spatial data within cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead species range map production, delivering complete range maps for marine and anadromous taxa in accordance with the FWS SOP.
• Obtain and review the FWS Range Mapping SOP at project kickoff.
• Perform spatial data aggregation and normalization, applying CRS transformations and spatial format standardization.
• Validate spatial intersects against authoritative layers and address dynamic habitat boundaries.
• Coordinate iterative range map review cycles with FWS Ecological Services and NOAA Fisheries SMEs; incorporate feedback and publish revised maps.
• Produce QA documentation for each range map and ensure SOP acceptance criteria.
• Coordinate FWS Ecological Services sign-off on the Range Map Set deliverable.
