NOVA Engineering is seeking a highly experienced and motivated DOT Geotechnical Engineer (Transportation) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license. This role involves leading geotechnical projects, providing technical expertise, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock sampling, laboratory testing, and analysis.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, including foundation recommendations, slope stability analyses, and earthwork specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, ensuring compliance with NCDOT standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success.
  • Client account management and development visiting and communicating with appropriate NCDOT personnel in various divisions across NC.
  • Oversee fieldwork, including drilling, sampling, and testing activities.
  • Review and approve geotechnical designs, calculations, and drawings.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant experience on NCDOT projects.
  • Experience with gINT, Open Road Designer, and other typical NCDOT drawings and programs.
  • Strong knowledge of NCDOT standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Proven experience in geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools.
