Job summary

AngloGold Ashanti North America is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer Tailings in Las Vegas, NV, with 10+ years of geotechnical and dam safety experience. The role leads governance for TSFs, heap leach pads, and water storage, coordinating with site teams, external partners, and regulators to ensure safety and long‑term asset integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline.
• Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; reciprocity eligible.
• 10+ years of progressive industry experience in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering.
• Extensive hands-on experience with mine tailings, heap leach pads, and water storage facilities.
• Proven track record leading multidisciplinary technical teams and dam safety governance.
• Expertise in soil mechanics, limit equilibrium, finite element stability analyses, and seepage modeling.
• Familiar with tailings governance frameworks, GISTM compliance, and regulatory standards.
• Ability to mentor staff and partner with site operations across regions.
• Strong written and verbal communication for executive briefings.

Responsibilities

• Lead operational and technical governance across assigned assets with clear direction to site teams.
• Ensure tailings and water storage infrastructure align with risk standards and mandates.
• Deliver geotechnical oversight across the TSF lifecycle including investigations, design, QA, surveillance, and closure.
• Govern heap leach facilities and mine earthworks infrastructure.
• Champion tailings risk management through TMS and critical control frameworks.
• Review complex design reports, stability analyses, and study deliverables.
• Manage external partners, engineers of record, and independent review boards.
• Report facility performance and emerging risks to senior leadership and regulators.
• Identify and implement technical and operational optimization opportunities.
• Evaluate trade-offs to improve constructability, performance, and risk reduction.
