Job summary

At AtkinsRéalis, a geotechnical tailings engineer is sought to lead multi-disciplinary teams in the design of tailings impoundments and mine waste facilities from concept to construction. The role focuses on siting, design and documentation for earthwork projects in mining and water resources.

The candidate should have a civil/geotechnical degree, a geotechnical postgraduate qualification, 6+ years of relevant experience, and a Professional Engineer license (or reciprocity with NV/AZ).

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of experience designing dikes, embankment dams and geomembrane lined facilities with leak detection.
• Registered Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain in NV or AZ within 12 months.
• Demonstrated knowledge of slope stability, seepage, and stress-strain analysis; experience with dynamic/seismic analyses.
• Strong teamwork within multidisciplinary engineering teams of geotechnical engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists and environmental specialists.

Responsibilities

• Act as geotechnical task lead on multi-disciplinary project teams for tailings facilities, heap leach pads and embankment dam projects.
• Direct geotechnical investigations and siting studies for tailings facilities and mine infrastructure.
• Prepare drawings and technical specifications and participate in reviews.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and contribute to proposals.
