Job summary

Our client, a well-established engineering consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead technical delivery and drive strategic growth.

This high-impact leadership role requires 8+ years in geotechnical engineering, mentoring teams, managing client relationships, and advancing business development. The position involves overseeing investigations, reporting, and construction support across diverse infrastructure projects in the Mid-Atlantic.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 8+ years geotechnical engineering experience across diverse project types.
  • PE license required (or ability to obtain quickly).
  • Strong background in geotechnical analysis, reporting, and construction support.
  • Proven experience managing projects, clients, and teams.
  • Experience with proposal writing and business development strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for a wide range of project types.
  • Oversee subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing, and engineering evaluations.
  • Provide recommendations for foundations, earthwork, slope stability, groundwater, and pavement design.
  • Review and sign off on reports, calculations, and technical deliverables.
  • Provide construction-phase support including QA/QC and field coordination.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from proposal through completion.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, geologists, and field staff.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, drill crews, and laboratory personnel.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients; identify new opportunities.
  • Lead proposal development, scope definition, and fee negotiations.
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, industry events, and agency interactions.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies as needed.
  • Support permitting efforts and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to firm-wide strategic initiatives and growth opportunities.

Their work spans aviation, transportation, commercial development, utilities, and government facilities, with involvement across all phases—from site investigation through design and construction support.

They are looking to bring on a Senior Geotechnical Engineer who will play a key leadership role in both technical delivery and strategic growth of the firm.

Position Overview

This is a high-impact leadership role for an experienced geotechnical professional (8+ years) who is looking to move beyond pure technical execution and into client leadership, team management, and business development.

You will be responsible for leading projects, managing client relationships, mentoring teams, and helping shape the future direction of the firm.

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
  • Lead geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for a wide range of project types
  • Oversee subsurface exploration programs, laboratory testing, and engineering evaluations

Client Management & Business Development
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across the Mid-Atlantic region
  • Lead proposal development, scope definition, and fee negotiations
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, industry events, and agency interactions
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies as needed
  • Support permitting efforts and regulatory compliance
  • Contribute to firm-wide strategic initiatives, including service expansion and market positioning
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on growth opportunities and operational improvements
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of geotechnical engineering experience across diverse project types
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or ability to obtain quickly)
  • Strong background in geotechnical analysis, reporting, and construction support
  • Proven experience managing projects, clients, and teams
  • Experience with proposal writing and business development strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
