Job summary

The State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Materials and Research, seeks a Geotechnical Engineer IV to coordinate subsurface exploration and perform advanced evaluations for state-wide civil projects. You will contribute to design, construction, and maintenance phases across the state.

Qualified candidates will have a PE license in Civil/Geo/Structural, a relevant degree, and several years of post-baccalaureate engineering experience.

Qualifications

• Masters in engineering with four years post-baccalaureate engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with six years post-baccalaureate engineering experience.
• Associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology with six years experience at Civil Eng I level plus two years as Engineering Technician.

Responsibilities

• Prepare geotechnical reports with data, interpretations, evaluations, and recommendations for design, construction, and maintenance of roadways, bridges and structures.
• Review in-house geotechnical work and reports by engineers, geologists and earth scientists.
• Participate in design phase meetings to discuss geotechnical evaluations and implementation recommendations.
• Prepare contract specifications for proposed geotechnical work.
• Plan and supervise subsurface exploration and lab testing when needed.
• Check complex geotechnical calculations for slopes, foundations, piles, walls and ground improvements.
• Support during construction with evaluation of field conditions and materials; inspect installations and monitor using instrumentation.
• Assist Pavement Management with models for the Pavement Management System.
