Job summary

AECOM’s Mountain Division is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Dams) to join the Denver, Colorado Geotechnical Dams team, while based in our Glenwood Springs office. You will support the Denver dams group and work on challenging dam and hydropower projects across the western US.

Responsibilities include leading subsurface investigations, complex field exploration programs, geotechnical analyses, report preparation, and coordination with regulators and project teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or a related field with 6+ years of related experience in dams or equivalent experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • A valid U.S. Driver’s License is required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform subsurface investigations including drilling on dams and manage CPT and geophysical data investigations, test pits, borrow area evaluations, and monitoring installations in the western US
  • Plan, perform, and manage complex field exploration programs, material characterization, and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials
  • Oversee geotechnical analyses including seepage, slope stability, settlement, liquefaction, and deformation
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, analyses, and design-related documents
  • Present technical findings to project teams, clients, regulators, and review boards
  • Review regulatory guidelines and standards for dam design and permitting work
  • Participate in dam safety inspections and prepare summary reports with findings
  • Oversee inspections of construction activities to ensure conformance to plans and specs
  • Prepare/peer-review calculations, designs, and construction documents
  • Develop and manage health and safety plans for field investigations and inspections
  • Review reports by junior staff
  • Ensure QA/QC compliance on project work
