Principal Geotechnical / Dams Engineer – Phoenix, AZ.

Job Description

AECOM is soliciting a Principal Geotechnical/Dams Engineer for its Phoenix, AZ. office. The incumbent will lead geotechnical engineering projects, oversee field investigations, and provide technical support and business development for dams and related infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Geotechnical Engineering Team as a Principal Engineer.
  • Plan and oversee field exploration, characterization, and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
  • Provide technical support to dams Project Managers in design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide project management support as Deputy Project Manager: client management, contract management, planning and execution, and financial management.
  • Oversee slope stability and seepage analyses and design slope‑stabilization measures for dams, spillways, and levees.
  • Oversee dam construction activities.
  • Supervise preparation of technical reports, independent dam safety inspections, and potential failure‑mode analyses.
  • Conduct independent technical reviews.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Drive business development for existing and new clients.
  • Ensure the quality of project deliverables.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • BA/BS +8 years related experience or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer’s license (PE).
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 8+ years experience with dam projects, including inspection, rehabilitation, new design, and construction.
  • PE registration in Arizona.
  • 15+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant building code provisions.
  • Strong commitment to ensuring safe project execution.
  • Local travel required.
  • Experience with local permitting jurisdictions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
