Job description

Confidential Client | Greater Puget Sound Area

Build the Legacy. Lead the Work. Shape What Comes Next.

If you’re a senior geotechnical engineer who wants more than just projects — more influence, more leadership, and a clearer path to shaping the future of a firm — this role was designed with you in mind.

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer who is ready to step into a highly visible leadership role, make a measurable impact on business success, and mentor the next generation of engineers. This is an opportunity to combine technical excellence, client leadership, and strategic growth, with real upside for the right person.

You’ll work on meaningful infrastructure and geotechnical projects, collaborate with talented professionals, and have the chance to grow into expanded leadership — potentially including management and ownership opportunities over time.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Influence & Impact – Your expertise won’t just guide projects; it will help shape teams, clients, and long-term strategy

  • Leadership Growth – Clear runway to expanded leadership responsibilities for those who want it

  • Autonomy & Trust – Lead projects, build relationships, and drive solutions with independence

  • Mentorship – Teach, coach, and develop junior engineers while strengthening the firm as a whole

  • Meaningful Work – Solve complex geotechnical challenges that directly impact communities and infrastructure

The Role

This position blends technical leadership, project management, mentoring, and business development. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to clients while guiding internal teams toward consistent, high-quality outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing complex geotechnical engineering projects from planning through construction

  • Performing advanced engineering analyses, including:

    • Soil and rock classification

    • Shallow and deep foundation design and capacity

    • Settlement analysis (immediate and consolidation)

    • Slope stability and seismic hazard evaluations (liquefaction, lateral spreading)

    • Earth retention systems

  • Preparing geotechnical engineering reports, construction specifications, and drawings

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary internal and external teams

  • Providing construction-phase support and oversight

  • Actively participating in marketing and business development efforts

  • Training, mentoring, and developing engineering staff

What We’re Looking For
  • 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred)

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington State

  • Strong project management and client relationship skills

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and inspire teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Experience with geotechnical software such as L-Pile, SHAFT, gINT, GRL WEAP, Slide, Settle 3D, or similar tools

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively

Compensation & Work Environment
  • Salary range: $130,000 – $175,000, depending on experience and qualifications

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday

  • Primarily in-person, with a mix of office and field work

  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement plan with employer match, and generous paid time off
