This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Redmond, WA office. This position can also be located from our Tacoma, WA, Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA offices. Be involved in projects with our Civil Ground Engineering & Materials, Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Provides geotechnical engineering assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, analysis, concept development, planning, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact
  • With minimal assistance, collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, soil/rock samples, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis of rock and soil environmental data, and reporting.
  • Perform professional geotechnical engineering work and assist with proposed and existing site conditions, including subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, advanced earthquake engineering, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, and slope stability to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, construction, or operating permits for various projects.
  • Participate in incorporating advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality of structures and systems.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work, including layout, cost estimation, and ensuring compliance with specifications and regulations.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance to assess safety risks.
  • Prepare data visualizations, reports, sketches, and calculations for data interpretation and presentation.
  • Assist with project scoping and development of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Contribute to technical reports and presentations to communicate research findings and address design or construction issues.
  • Conduct geotechnical studies and surveys for future planning.
  • Assist in data analysis, evaluation, and interpretation from field investigations, including developing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff and assist in health and safety plan development.
  • Collaborate with other professionals on federally, state, and locally funded projects.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and company policies on conduct and safety.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Technical knowledge of geotechnical design, including foundations, slope stability, earthquake engineering, and earth retention.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Understanding of rock and soil mechanics for foundation and earth structure design.
  • Ability to coordinate with regulators and understand legal requirements.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, results-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with technical software and tools.
  • Problem-solving skills and a track record of safety compliance.
  • Availability for occasional travel and flexible schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or Doctorate in geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with numerical modeling.
  • Washington PE license or ability to obtain within a year.
  • Project management experience.
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.

WSP offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, and salary ranges based on experience and location. The salary range for Washington is approximately $99,800 to $133,300.
