Job Description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Geotechnical and Tunneling Team.

This position can be based out of the following WSP offices:

  • Boston, MA
  • North Providence, RI
  • Glastonbury, CT
  • Worcester, MA
  • Shelton, CT
  • Merrimack, NH
  • Other WSP offices throughout New England can be considered.

Job Duties

  1. Perform/coordinate field observation and special inspection of subsurface investigations in soils and rock.
  2. Perform geotechnical engineering design and analyses for bridges, buildings, tunnels, underground structures, and retaining walls under minimal supervision of senior engineers.
  3. Prepare/draft geotechnical memoranda, data reports, and design reports.
  4. Perform/coordinate field observation and special inspection of geotechnical construction.
  5. Assist task leaders in preparation of reports and Contract Documents.
  6. Collaborate with other disciplines and project partners.
  7. Assist to develop and coordinate geotechnical work in New England and other areas.
  8. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  9. Determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development, design, and construction.
  10. Maintain quality control standards and procedures for measurements, data analysis, and reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical or Tunneling Engineering, or a closely-related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of geotechnical engineering and related disciplines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and discipline-specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoSlope, Plaxis, etc.).
  • Flexibility to various schedules and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Willingness to travel and perform field work.
  • Successful completion of WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Geotechnical or Tunneling Engineering.
  • Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Experience with highway, bridge, building, and underground projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience managing projects.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
  • Basic First Aid and CPR training.
  • Active participation in professional organizations.
