Job description

A well‑respected, long‑standing Texas engineering firm is expanding its Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) division and is seeking a Senior Geotechnical / CMT Engineer to join their leadership team.

This company‑privately owned, stable, and known for treating its people incredibly well has been experiencing sustained demand across commercial, industrial, municipal, and transportation sectors. They want someone who wants more than just a job: they want someone who wants to build, drive, and lead.

About the Opportunity

This hire is not meant to "fill a seat." They want a future technical leader – someone who can help evolve the division, elevate standards, and ultimately take ownership of a major portion of the business.

Why This Role Is Different
  • Strong Reputation & Repeat Clients: The firm has been around for decades and is deeply embedded in the Texas AEC community.
  • Ability to Make an Impact: Because the company isn't a giant bureaucracy, you'll have genuine influence over geotechnical programs, CMT operations, exploration approaches, reporting standards, and client strategy.
  • Leadership Track: This role is part of a long‑term succession plan. As they grow, they want this person positioned for a future Chief Engineer / Department Lead role.
  • Supportive, Low‑Ego Culture: Leadership describes their culture as "Technical excellence without the corporate nonsense." Teams collaborate, communicate openly, and prioritize quality and career growth.
Key Responsibilities
  • Geotechnical Engineering: Lead and review investigations, analysis, and final reporting; oversee field programs including borings, sampling, and lab testing; perform engineering analyses (bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, pavements, retaining walls); provide recommendations for foundations, earthwork, pavements, groundwater, and site development.
  • CMT Engineering Oversight: Provide engineering supervision for lab and field CMT operations; stamp geotechnical and materials testing reports; mentor technicians and evaluate test data for compliance and accuracy; improve QA/QC processes and technical standards.
  • Project & Client Leadership: Serve as a primary technical contact for clients, contractors, developers, municipalities, and DOT partners; prepare proposals, scopes, and budgets for geotechnical and CMT projects; help guide strategic expansion of the division.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Texas PE preferred or ability to obtain via reciprocity).
  • 6‑15+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering and/or CMT engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Texas soils, foundation systems, and construction methods.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or technicians.
  • Ability to manage projects, write reports, and interface with clients confidently.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary with performance bonuses.
  • Strong benefits package (healthcare, PTO).
  • Professional development support and PE renewal fees covered.
  • Clear promotion pathway with significant leadership potential.
