Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Geochemist Researcher to lead advanced analyses of rocks, soils, and waters at a state-of-the-art lab in Welkom, Free State. You will apply ICP-MS, XRF, XRD, and isotopic techniques, interpret data, and contribute to groundbreaking geochemical research.

You will model geochemical systems, mentor staff, and prepare reports and grant proposals. A PhD and 6+ years in geochemistry are required, with opportunities for growth and collaboration in a leading research

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Geology, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral or relevant industry experience in geochemical research.
• Expertise in analytical techniques (ICP-MS, XRF, XRD, SEM/EDS).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, aqueous geochemistry, and isotope geochemistry.
• Proficiency in geochemical modeling software (PHREEQC, GWB).
• Excellent analytical and communication skills; ability to lead research projects.
• Experience in the Free State or similar geological settings is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth geochemical analyses of geological samples (rocks, soils, water).
• Develop and implement analytical methods using ICP-MS, XRF, GC-MS, and isotopic analysis.
• Interpret complex geochemical data to understand geological processes and mineral formation.
• Model geochemical systems and predict chemical behavior under various conditions.
• Collaborate with geologists, environmental scientists, and engineers on research projects.
• Maintain and calibrate advanced geochemical instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot analytical issues and develop solutions for challenging sample matrices.
• Author scientific reports, publications, and contribute to grant proposals.
• Mentor junior geochemists and provide technical guidance.
