Job summary

The University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine in Philadelphia is seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician/Specialist to support the Genetic Diagnostic Laboratory of Dr. Arupa Ganguly.

You will perform DNA isolation, mutation detection, real-time Q-PCR, NGS library prep, SNP arrays, sequence analysis, and related functions in a clinical genetics lab. Candidates should have at least 3 years of molecular biology experience, strong bench skills, experience with NGS, and familiarity with

Qualifications

• Strong bench skills with routine molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, sequencing, and QPCR.
• Familiarity with web-based databases and bioinformatic analysis is desirable.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a rapidly evolving team.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures in a clinical genetic testing lab with established competency and authorization.
• Designs and analyzes procedures for genetic diagnosis using NGS, Sanger sequencing, array technologies, methylation assays, QPCR and sequence alignments.
• Participates in proficiency testing and maintains compliance with policies; updates lab policies and documents for regulatory review.
• Flexibility to accommodate weekend STAT requests as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Assists in research paper preparation, lab meetings, seminars, and conferences.
• Supervises junior colleagues and maintains equipment and supplies.
