Job summary

Home Power Systems in New York seeks a dedicated Generator Service Technician to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and light commercial standby generators. The ideal candidate has a strong electrical and mechanical background and experience with natural gas and propane-fueled systems.

You will conduct preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and start-up/testing, ensuring safe, reliable operation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of generator, electrical, or mechanical service experience.
• Experience with Generac, Kohler, Cummins, or Briggs & Stratton preferred.
• Strong understanding of single- and three-phase electrical systems (120/240V, 208V, 480V).
• Knowledge of gas (NG/LP) fuel delivery systems, control panels, and ATS operation.
• High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical training preferred.
• Valid driver's license with clean MVR.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs; outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections on standby generator systems, including oil changes, filter replacements, and battery testing.
• Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and fuel system issues on generators and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
• System Testing: Conduct start-up, load testing, and system performance checks to ensure reliable operation.
• Safety & Compliance: Follow OSHA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and NFPA 110 standards; ensure all work complies with manufacturer guidelines and local codes.
• Documentation: Accurately complete work orders, maintenance logs, and inspection reports in the field management system.
• Customer Service: Explain findings, repairs, and recommendations clearly to customers; educate them on maintenance and operation best practices.
• Inventory & Equipment: Maintain tools, parts inventory, and company vehicle in a clean and professional manner.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with electrical, gas, and installation teams to support cross-departmental needs and emergency response.
