Walbec Group seeks a Claims Specialist 2 to independently manage general liability claims from notice through resolution in an in-office setting. You will handle investigations, liability and coverage analyses, reserving, and settlement negotiations while coordinating with internal teams and outside counsel.

The role requires strong judgment, organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance, business, legal studies, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years liability claim-handling experience preferred.
• Construction-related general liability claim experience preferred.
• Experience with risk management systems (Origami or STARS).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability requirements.

Responsabilités

• Independently investigates and manages general liability claims of moderate to high complexity, including litigated matters.
• Conducts timely claim investigations and collects statements, photographs, contracts, reports, invoices, and other documentation.
• Communicates with claimants and stakeholders to explain the claim process.
• Maintains regular communication with Safety, project management, field operations, Legal, insurers, brokers, and internal/external stakeholders.
• Reviews contracts, indemnification provisions, and insurance requirements.
• Evaluates liability, damages, coverage, and reserves; documents basis for decisions.
• Develops claim strategies, action plans, and diaries; settlements within authority.
• Establishes and updates reserves per reserving philosophy.
• Documents complete claim files in Origami with notes and supporting documentation.
• Compiles management reports addressing liability, coverage, denial, and settlement valuation.
• Negotiates settlements within authority and escalates when needed.
• Coordinates with defense counsel; assists with litigation, mediation, and arbitration.
• Identifies subrogation and recovery opportunities.
