Job summary

The Met, a network of public high schools in Providence, RI, seeks a General Ledger Accountant to support accounting operations, month-end close, and financial reporting. The role collaborates with the Business Manager and staff to ensure GAAP compliance and strong internal controls.

Responsibilities include managing the general ledger, grants accounting, and preparing monthly statements. Experience with fund accounting and audits is preferred; CPA is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Experience with fund accounting.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Advanced Microsoft and Google suite application skills.
• Demonstrated experience preparing reconciliations, financial reports, and audit schedules.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger with journal entries, accruals, adjusting entries, and reconciliations.
• Lead assigned month-end and year-end close processes.
• Support the Business Manager with monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual reports.
• Monitor grant expenditures and fund accounting compliance.
• Coordinate annual financial statement audits and prepare workpapers.
