Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a seasoned financial operations leader to oversee the General Accounting and Cash Receipts functions within the VDOT finance framework. You will ensure GAAP compliance, drive reporting accuracy, and implement process improvements aligned with Commonwealth policies.

Responsibilities include coordinating cash receipts, journal entries, reconciliations, and internal controls while guiding staff development and cross-functional collaboration with Accounts

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GAAP applicable to governmental accounting.
• Experience with general accounting, AP/AR and cash receipts processes.
• Ability to interpret complex financial data and prepare summary reports.
• Experience coordinating with auditors and management.
• Strong communication and staff supervision skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct general accounting operations, cash receipts, and related processes.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and alignment with Commonwealth policies.
• Coordinate annual closing, journal entries, reconciliations, and cash handling.
• Lead staff development and cross-training across Fiscal Division.
• Collaborate with Accounts Receivable, Project Accounting, and Financial Reporting teams.
• Provide timely responses to management and auditor requests.
