Job summary

City of Monroe (NC) seeks a skilled welder to fabricate and weld natural gas facilities and related appurtenances. The role covers shop and field welding, maintaining tap equipment, and ensuring safe installation and maintenance of gas lines.

The incumbent will design and fabricate meter sets and regulator stations, assist with repairs, read utility maps, manage welding shop activities, and be available for after-hours emergencies and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and considerable experience in arc welding of utility pipelines.
• Ability to pass API 1104 welding qualification.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a Class A CDL within six months.
• CPR and basic first aid certification within one year.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding in shop and field.
• Maintain tap equipment.
• Ensure safe installation and maintenance of natural gas facilities and appurtenances.
• Design and fabricate meter sets.
• Assist with natural gas system repair.
• Fabricate meter sets and regulator stations.
• Perform welding on steel mains and services including tapping and stopping gas flow.
• Read utility maps to locate gas pipelines.
• Complete work orders and respond to emergencies; may work outside normal hours or on-call.
