Xcel Energy in Minnesota is seeking a seasoned design supervisor to lead dispersed teams of designers for electric and gas distribution systems. You will shape project scope, balance customer needs with safety and reliability, and drive design quality using standardized tools and processes.

You'll mentor staff, manage budgets and program timelines, participate in on-call duties, and support storm restoration efforts while aligning with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years electric and/or gas distribution design experience (preferably from design, engineering, construction, or operations) OR Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with 3+ years of electric and/or gas distribution experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and direction for distribution design activities, including budgeting related to distribution capital projects and support of construction and operations departments.
• Develops leadership and retains a multi-functional workforce with ongoing learning and career development.
• Ensures efficient use of design resources with emphasis on safety, reliability, cost-containment and regulatory compliance.
• Establishes business plans, goals and objectives aligned with corporate strategy and uses the Corporate Management System for feedback.
• Participates in process improvements, safety goals, and cost reduction; collaborates with other units to share information.
• Provides mentoring and training to new hires and existing designers using Skill Based programs and other resources.
• Shares after-hours On-Call duties and assists in storm restoration by prioritizing outages and mobilizing resources.
