Job summary

Laansu is seeking a Senior Software Developer to build software products used by the Department of Transportation and the public to enhance road safety. You will lead development, ensure quality, and support systems deployed in AWS.

The role requires a U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, eligibility for a Public Trust Position, and 5–10 years of experience in Java, web apps, and database design. Hybrid work in Sterling, VA with a focus on delivering robust, long-term solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5-10 years of software development experience.
• 5+ years in Java OO programming.
• 5+ years building web apps or APIs.
• 5+ years designing relational databases.
• 3+ years creating rich web UI with HTML/CSS/Bootstrap/Angular/jQuery/TypeScript.
• Experience with AWS Cloud environments (ECS, RDS, KMS).
• Familiarity with ORM tools like Hibernate/JPA.
• Experience with Git and source control.
• Hands-on full-stack development with Angular frontend and Java backend.
• Experience with Microservices architecture and backend service design.
• Hands-on Docker experience.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).
• Experience deploying in AWS.

Responsibilities

• Receive tasks and requirements from program manager and estimate timelines.
• Follow agile sprint cycles and assist Test Team with testing.
• Peer-review colleagues' work and provide feedback.
• Document design decisions and technical details.
• Maintain source code version control.
• Lead the team and mentor juniors; build robust software for multi-year service.
• Take on additional responsibilities and grow career.
