Job summary

AppFolio is hiring a senior-level full-stack Software Engineer to join our Leasing Engineering Team and drive rapid product development pace. We work collaboratively to define the technical direction for our SaaS products, delivering high-quality solutions for our customers.

This role focuses on scalable web-based software, architectural leadership, and mentoring teammates to raise the technical bar—while maintaining reliability, performance, and maintainability across the system.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing and scaling web-based applications.
• Language-agnostic with deep experience in at least one modern language such as Ruby, Java, or Python.
• Experience with modern Agile software development practices (Scrum, Kanban, CI/CD).
• Strong experience with automated testing and its role in sustainable engineering.
• Experience leading architectural discussions and guiding technical decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable web-based solutions for complex business problems at scale.
• Lead by example in design, coding, and architecture; mentor engineers.
• Formulate and optimize algorithms and database queries for SaaS scalability.
• Design and deliver new features with focus on robustness and maintainability.
• Drive engineering excellence through TDD, code reviews, and CI practices.
• Collaborate with engineers, QA, product, designers, and researchers to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Champion agile practices to deliver at a rapid pace.
• Research and apply new technologies to improve system quality and delivery speed.
