Job summary

Phantom is a fully remote company building open-market crypto tools and services. We seek a senior software engineer to lead fraud prevention, risk controls, identity, and compliance infrastructure.

You will design data-intensive production systems, collaborate across frontend, backend, APIs, and data pipelines, and deliver product safeguards from the start while maintaining user experience. English proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and operating reliable, data-intensive production systems.
• Strong product judgment balancing user experience and financial risk.
• Ability to work across frontend, backend, APIs, data pipelines, and third-party integrations.
• Interest in protecting users and building trustworthy financial products.

Responsibilities

• Fraud prevention: Build real-time risk controls and decisioning systems for payments and money movement.
• Scam and abuse detection: Develop signals and models to identify malicious activity.
• Identity and compliance infrastructure: Build scalable KYC, sanctions screening, and monitoring systems.
• Data and intelligence: Create pipelines combining on-chain activity and product signals for risk insights.
• Product safety: Design safeguards into features without harming user experience.
• Operational tooling: Build internal tools for investigation and action by risk/compliance teams.
• Team building: Help establish engineering foundations and culture for a new function.
